Günter Grass

Günter Grass (Born Danzig (currently Gdansk, Polen), 16 oktober 1927) is a well known Nobel prize winning (in 1999) German writer. In the period 1947/1948 he completed his training as stonemason in Düsseldorf. Afterwards (from 1948 till 1952) he studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf graphics and sculptures. He continued his training at the Universität der Künste Berlin at the mason Karl Hartung. In the following years (1956/1957) Grass exhibit in Stuttgart and in Berlin-Tempelhof. In this period he also started to write. His background as a visual artist is also reflect in his literary work. Within novels like The Thin Drum Grass uses a surrealistic and grotesk metaphors, which is typical for him. The same style and approach we find also in his artwork. |
